Toastmasters
Toastmasters International is a US- headquarted nonprofit educational organisational that focuses on improving presentation, communication and leadership skills. It provides a supportive environment for members to practice public speaking, receive constructive feedback, and develop their abilities in conducting meetings and leadership roles. Toastmasters’ clubs are widespread and offer a structured program to help individuals enhance their communication and leadership capabilities.
The organization grew out of a single person, Ralph C. Smedley on October 22, 1924, in the United States. It originated as a set of classes with the aim of improving the communication skills of the young men under his charge. Throughout its history, Toastmasters has served over four million people, and today the organization serves over 364,000 members in 145 countries, through its 16,200 member clubs.
From civic halls to board rooms, public libraries to government agencies, restaurants to retirement centres, Toastmasters clubs are in communities, businesses, and organizations, small and large, throughout the world. It includes several clubs’ types like community clubs, college clubs, company clubs, etc.
Transcend Group of Institutions has Toastmasters clubs to help students develop public speaking and leadership skills. Toastmasters provides a supportive environment for practicing communication, improving confidence, and refining leadership abilities, which are valuable skills in both academic and professional settings.
The uniqueness of Transcend Toastmasters is the support from the management, the unity of the entire club and all the clubs combined. Our college gives us that initial push to encourage students to be a part of this wonderful community and make the best out of it.
Transcend provides toastmasters as a platform for networking and improving students’ leadership and public speaking skills. The first club in Transcend was founded by the batch of 2019-2021. It was the first club of Transcend to be chartered and soon many students started showcasing their interest towards perfecting the art of communication, wanting to join Toastmasters and hence 2 more clubs were chartered.
Transcend has given an opportunity to spread my wings and know my true potential through various schemes and programs.The main objective is to making the meetings always fun, with creative agendas for each meeting and a safe space for people to come up on stage and speak comfortably. It is the simple fact that each member has some learning and some takeaway from each meeting. The environment they create is designed to enhance communication and leadership skills in a structured and supportive manner, fostering both personal and professional development. It brings together students from all the batches to get along, network and give rise to some friendly competition which helps them working on main goal of Toastmasters and benefitting the most from it.
The networks that this platform has provided our students has helped them in the corporate world providing them with skills that they can use in the competitive world that we live in to give them a competitive edge, in order to stand out amongst many!
